Windows Networking - Share and Map Network Drives

Use the procedures outlined below to share drives (ie. share the Server drive) and map them so their contents are readable and writable from Workstations. This enables you to store the ChiroPulse database on one computer (ie. the Server) and share the same data with one or more other computers on your local network.

Server - computer that stores the database and shares it's drive (files and folders) over the Local Network

Workstation - second or third computer that uses the Network to view, read and save data that resides on the Server

In this example

  • the D-drive of the Server will be shared.

  • The Workstation has a network "N-drive" which is used to
view the contents of the Server's D-Drive

On the Network Server

From the Windows Desktop of the Server
open the Network Neighborhood icon

Click the Drive button that you want to share
Right Click to view the popup menu and select Sharing...

Select the Sharing tab
Click the Shared As button
Enter the Share Name as the Drive Letter (C or D)
Ensure the Access Type is Full

On the Network Workstation (ie. second or third computer)

From the Windows Desktop of the Workstation
Select Network Neighborhood
Right Click to view the popup menu and select Map Network Drive...

Select the Drive which will be letter of the Server Drive on your computer.
Select the Path where the Server drive is located.
Check Reconect at Logon so the mapping remains.
